New Habits Come Easy When You’re Having Fun – Dance, Swim, Stay Active

Another trick to maintaining new habits is to make them fun. Even things that are out of your comfort zone and may not seem like a great time can be turned into a game. Adding this element to habit forming helps to make your new routine easier and makes it stick. Staying active is one way to approach getting fit in a fun way. Use these tips to add fun to your new active lifestyle.

Invite a Friend

Working out can be a lot more fun when you have a friend with you. The two of you can chat and cheer each other on. In addition, having someone there can ensure that you’re using good form. It also alleviates boredom. Plus, there’s nothing like having a friend to drag you out of bed on mornings you just want to skip the workout.

Change Your Mindset

Changing your mindset about these new habits can truly make a difference in how you feel about them. Instead of looking at it as “having” to work out, try reminding yourself that you “get” the opportunity to exercise. You’re healthy enough to do it and have the resources available to you in the form of time, gear, or a gym membership. You can also look at your fitness time as a break from your day to day. It’s a chance to rejuvenate yourself and escape with your thoughts.

Use the Time for Creativity

Speaking of having time to think, fun exercises like swimming, dancing, and biking actually stimulate your creativity. You have time in which you’re away from screens and can allow your thoughts to flow freely. You’ll be amazed at the creativity bursts that can come from exercise.

Add Music

If you don’t have a friend with you, why not try adding music to your fitness activity? Hiking while listening to upbeat tunes can be really energizing. Grab a pair of headphones and bring them along. You can listen to a streaming app on your phone, so you don’t even need to add anything special to your gym bag.

Make It a Challenge

Sometimes turning your workout activities into a competition can increase your motivation. Challenging yourself is a great way to add some fun to your workout. Something as simple as adding more reps or additional distance to your routine is good. Getting creative with your challenges and really stretching your boundaries might make it even better.

These are just some ways to make your new habits fun. Use them as you’re getting started, and feel free to add your own twists.

I’m heading out for a walk...

Cheers!
