Commit to Journaling Every Single Day – Even if It’s Just a Line

We’ve talked about some of the benefits of journaling, and I’ve given you some ways to get started. I'm even gifting you a PDF download of Journal Prompts to get you inspired: Here's your link:

However, even with prompts, it still may seem a bit daunting to you. Maybe you’re having some trouble committing to the process of journaling on a regular basis. That’s okay. As with any new habit, journaling won’t become automatic right away. That’s why it’s called a practice. Let’s see if we can make it a little easier for you. Follow these suggestions if you want to commit to journaling every single day.

Keep It Simple

Writing multiple paragraphs might be too overwhelming or too much like homework. That’s okay. No one ever said you had to write a mini-novel or even that your entry must be something profound. You may not find insight, depth, or catharsis every time you sit down to write. There’s no need to put that kind of pressure on yourself. On days you’re not feeling it, go ahead and just write one sentence. That’s enough. Even a doodle or a few words that convey a brief message are plenty. What matters is consistency and maintaining your momentum.

Add It to Your Routine

Another way to get less stressed out about your new journaling habit is to stick it onto something you’re already doing. That way, the practice becomes part of your routine in a way that’s seamless. Do you have toast and tea every morning before heading to work? Grab your journal and write a bit while finishing your breakfast. You’ll find it’s much easier this way.

Set an Alarm

If you find yourself forgetting to journal several days in a row, you might want to set an alarm on your smartphone or other device as a reminder. That simple trigger will help bring journaling to the front of your mind. Try to set your reminder alarm at a time that makes the most sense for journaling, when you won’t be likely to ignore it or

push it aside until later.

Take It with You

Another way to increase your chances of journaling is to make sure you always have your journal with you. That way, it’s always in reach when the mood strikes or when you remember to jot down some thoughts. You can use a pocket size notebook, an app, or a laptop computer. Choose the format that works for you and fits your lifestyle best.

Keep these tips in mind as you begin your journaling journey. Remembering to write in your journal does get easier with time. These tricks will help you get started and keep you inspired.

Until next time...

Cheers!

Lisa
