The More You Change, The More You LOVE It!

 If you’ve ever worked out with weights, you know that the more you lift, the better you get. What once was painful and hard becomes easier and fun! Change is a lot like lifting weights - the more you change, the easier it is and more fun you have.

 If you aren’t in the habit of making changes, start small, get bolder, and then go big! Flexing your change muscle and getting more proficient at making changes will build on itself, and before long, you’ll be changing things often and easily.

Start Small

Small changes can be as simple as painting a room a new color. Consider these ideas for making small changes:

  • Order a new coffee drink the next time you see the barista
  • Redecorate your home
  • Join a meetup group for a fun hobby or activity
  • Take a different route home from work
  • Host a block party for your neighborhood 

Get Bolder

Bolder changes come with some risk. Whether it’s opinions from other people to consequences if you don’t like your choice, bolder changes can be exhilarating, and most consequences aren’t too big if you missed the mark. Here are some bolder changes you can consider: 

  • Change your hairstyle or hair color (I dyed mine blue, green, and purple after a major health crisis to remind me it wasn't time to worry yet.)
  • Get a new pet
  • Ask your crush on a date
  • Buy a new car
  • Go on a solo trip to another country 

Go Big!

 Big changes come from being confident and comfortable with risk. The more small and bolder changes you make, the more they prepare you to think bigger and go for more. Here are some really big changes that might make take you to a whole new place in life:

  • Go back to school
  • Change careers
  • Move to a new city
  • Take a sabbatical from your career
  • Retire early
  • Start your entrepreneurial dream

 Taking risk and embracing change is a habit that you can increase over time. Before long, you will love change and feel restless when it’s been too long between changes. You can model this behavior for others who are averse to risk and find themselves stuck in a rut, needing an outlet.

 Start small, get bolder, and go big over time. You’ve got nothing to lose and so much to gain. Change is waiting, and there are so many changes to be had. Enjoy building your change-it-up muscle!
