Independence by living an Intentional Life

We're celebrating Independence Day here in the United States. The holiday means different things...the day off from work...fireworks...picnics...celebrations...and America's independence from Great Britain.

But what does it mean in regards to living your life?

Here are just a few things that immediately come to my mind.

Following the Philosophy of A House With Four Rooms

When you live with an Intentional Life, you practice routines and rituals that support your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. This boils down to doing something daily in each of your four rooms. This can start with following an exercise regimen, learning something new and practicing a skill, meditating, and praying.

This has been my personal practice for over thirty years. I have designed systems, routines, and rituals that bring my life joy. I practice gratitude each day, as well as forgiveness, and reflection. Each thought, each action, and each day brings me closer to my goals because live with intention.

Living with and on Purpose

When you are motivated by what brings your life meaning and purpose, you tend to experience much more joy and freedom. You are more self-aware and become better at time-management because you pick and choose activities and events that bring you closer towards your personal goals.

Aligning with Your Values

When choosing to live an Intentional Life, you become more aware of your personal time. You are able to pick and choose how you spend your time, and you'll find you are able to say "no" more often to people about things that do not align with your personal values. Your integrity is important, not only as others see you, but how you see yourself. Living an Intentional Life means any of your values, from religious or ethical values, to environmental concerns to living a minimalist lifestyle are all a matter of choice...your choice.

Choosing You

Each day you make thousands of decisions, many of which are made with very little thought and consideration. For instance, you choose how you'll respond to the stimulus in your life...the people, situations, and events. You get to choose your attitude, make decisions, take action steps, and decide how you will think, feel, and act in any given moment.

We've all heard the saying that you get "one life to live" and if we're lucky, we live it on our own terms.

We need to decide what we want our lives to look like, how we want to live them, and what's important to us. What would you like to achieve? Is a legacy important to you?

Having and pursuing goals is an excellent way to stay motivated and invite opportunities into your life. The ability to live, to really live, is at the heart of living an Intentional Life.

Don't let time pass by. The worst things that you could ever waste is your life

What does Independence look like for you?

I recently contributed to the Community Book Project: Independence project with writing coach, Donna Kozik. This project starts with writing a 200-word essay to a prompt; the prompt for this edition was "What does independence mean to you?" and over 100 contributors are included. Amazon's description: "This book includes stories about living out loud (and on your own). There are tales of friends and flags and even one about online dating."

So, what does independence look like? Check out the book with my affiliate link here:

Until next time...
