Developing a Positive Attitude

Are you truly happy with your life? Have you achieved your goals and are you living the life that you really want to? If not, why? It could be that your attitude is to blame.

People with a positive attitude often get more out of life. They are optimistic and know that things will work out in the end. They don’t let small things get in the way and they are always full of energy and are happy.

The thing you need to know is that you can have this outlook on life as well. All you have to do is to develop a positive attitude. It really is so easy to think negatively about a situation and blame someone else for your current situation. However, the way you interpret the situation leads to how you will feel about it. I'm in favor of being realistic about the situation, even feeling the feelings that connect to the reality, but then, I reframe and move forward. Sometimes, it's just best to make your mess your message so that others can learn from you.

There's no time like the present; it is time for you to take responsibility, develop a better attitude and start living your dreams. Your time is much too precious to squander away with negativity.

The next time you walk into a room full of people, take notice of the different groups of people. You will discover that all the energetic, successful, and outgoing people will be mingling together. Then there are the people who tend to complain and blame others congregating together. And then, often observing the groups and often sitting on the fringe of the groups, are the people that are digesting and making sense of what they are seeing, hearing, and feeling.

Which group would you prefer to be in?

It is said that success breeds success and this applies to the trait of being positive as well. If you surround yourself with people who see things positively, this view will rub off on you as well. Author Jim Rohn said, "you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with."

If you want to make changes in your life, your first step is to choose one area of your life that you want to improve. There is nothing wrong in having dreams, desires, and goals in your life and there is no reason why you can’t achieve these things.

Once you have chosen an area to improve, then look for ways to take action on it. A good example is of someone wanting to lose weight. A positive person will not view themselves as starving or feeling deprived; instead, they will know that they are improving their health and their lifestyle. They will take the necessary actions that move them closer to their goals.

One good way to start thinking more positively is by reading quotes and affirmations. Find a couple affirmations that really resonates with you and use them every day. Say them out loud every morning and write them down and pin them somewhere they will be visible. I like to put them on my bathroom mirror, on my desktop wallpaper, and in my wallet. I also write them out on a legal-sized notebook and say them throughout the day.

When you repeat these quotes, these words will stick in your head and you will start to act and feel this way. Do this on a regular basis and before you know it, your attitude will change for the better.

You are responsible for your attitude...if necessary, take a time out and practice some deep breathing or create some distance in order to reflect and reframe your interpretation of the situation.

Don't give your power away to others...don't allow others' words or actions control your attitude or your happiness. Take on the responsibility...be responsible for your self-care.

Have a wonderful day!
