Want to Get Into Shape? Then You Need to Change EVERYTHING but Slowly

Most people who want to get into shape – whether that means losing weight or adding muscle – will make the mistake of thinking it's a very straightforward and easy process. More specifically, they will think that all they have to do is to exercise more and eat less.

And essentially they're not wrong for thinking that. The problem is that this in itself is not really so easy. Why? Because if you had the energy and mental discipline to eat less and exercise more… well, then you already would be!

Instead then you need to change everything.

Your Job is the Reason You're Not Exercising

There are countless reasons you're not yet in the shape you want to be in. One of them is the fact that you're constantly tired and stressed because of work. In that regard, your career is responsible for your lack of abs.

Likewise though, you could just as easily blame your poor sleep for your lack of health. Or maybe you could blame your too-packed social calendar. If you're seeing friends five nights of the week, then how can you be expected to stick to a lengthy and tiring training program?

You see, to really improve your chances of making significant improvements with regards to your health, you actually need to address every aspect of your lifestyle.

Taking it Slowly

The problem is that completely changing everything is likely going to be a little bit tricky for most people. Your lifestyle is the result of countless habits, outside influences and experience. People are very resistant to change on this scale so instead you need to start looking for ways that you can more slowly and gradually change your lifestyle across the board.

This is what is known as 'kaizen' – the application of small and continuous changes throughout your life with the aim being to create cumulative change on a larger scale.

You maybe can't change your lifestyle overnight but if you make your goal to do one less social outing a week then that's something that's very achievable. Next month you could make the goal be to leave work half an hour sooner. Next month it could be to start applying for other work.

All this continuous and gradual change will eventually add up and ultimately this will give you the time, energy and drive you need to make changes to your health.

I mentioned to my Mastermind group that my health coach has me keeping track of my water intake. This is one small step toward working on my health.  We are also working together to find low vitamin K foods that I can enjoy. Again, small steps toward my health goals.

What can you do to take charge of your health goals?  Put kaizen to work in your Physical Room...keep moving forward and you'll make progress.

Until next time...

Cheers!

Lisa
