Health & Beauty Aren’t the Same Thing – Focus on Health

Have you ever heard the term ‘Fat Thin’? This is the term used to describe someone who may be considered thin by beauty standards due to their physical size but their body fat versus lean muscle indicates they have too much fat. Since beauty is attributed to size in our culture, it is possible to be beautiful and remarkably unhealthy.

Our health and our beauty are not the same thing. Beauty is the physical attributes that are attractive. Health is the inner state of our physical being. Closing the gap between the two is ideal. Having a healthy and beautiful body, mind, and spirit is something wonderful to strive for.

They key is an equitable balance of focus between the two. Let’s take a look:

 Focus on health by

  • Eating well
  • Exercising
  • Meditation
  • Getting regular checkups
  • Sleeping well
  • Being mentally stable

 Focus on beauty by

  • Having good hygiene
  • Finding your personal style
  • Enjoying fashion trends
  • Investing in skin and body care
  • Having a great haircut

It’s best practice to find a way to embrace beauty and health as a combination of elements that make life full and enjoyable. Loving how you look and how you feel is a wonderful combination. Putting too much emphasis on one over the other can leave you lopsided.

Practice finding the duality between beauty and health with these tips from A House With Four Rooms:

  1. Make exercise as normal as a shower. Most people do not put off taking a shower. The necessity to prevent body odor and maintain good hygiene is ingrained from childhood. Make movement as necessary as a shower to promote beauty and health.
  2. Meditate and get good health care. Being aware of the importance of keeping our minds clear and focused on positive things is as important as getting a physical and having your teeth cleaned. The duality of taking care of the mind and body gives you freedom of thought and a healthy body to store those thoughts in.
  3. Eat your vegetables and be kind to people. Eating right contributes to a healthy body in the same way kindness contributes to a healthy community. What you put into it, returns tenfold. Being kind and eating well takes care of the duality of your physical health and your psychological health.

Health and beauty aren’t the same thing. Focus on health, and the beauty will take care of itself. With the simple rituals and habits you establish following the philosophy of the Indian Proverb, you will be making small, incremental improvements that will transform your life.
